In my previous career, I worked in a large school in a management position. Whilst doing the job I was working long hours, juggling workload, trying to do and be everything and generally feeling overwhelmed with the enormity of the role and life in general. During this time I also wasn’t taking care of myself; eating on the run, drinking too much, not sleeping enough and generally burning the candle at both ends.
My anxiety was out of control and I began to suffer from various other health issues including fatigue, joint pain, sinus infections, digestive issues and various food intolerances. I knew something was wrong but didn’t know what and just tried to carry on. I was eventually diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Disease, an autoimmune thyroid condition. Initially, I believed it was the effects of my hectic lifestyle that had caused this and was taking a toll on my body. I immediately started on medication to treat my condition and made drastic changes to my diet and lifestyle.
Even though these changes saw great improvements in my health, my anxiety only got worse and I began to suffer with debilitating panic attacks. It was then that I realised there was something that was missing in my healing journey and if I wanted to live a life free from anxiety I had to take a different approach.
Yes, my lifestyle was having an effect on my health but in actual fact the way I was leading my life was actually a symptom of something going on much deeper.
I had a life-long issue of keeping my problems to myself, never showing emotion and just getting on with things. I actually had no idea of how to express my thoughts, feelings and emotions and instead when anything would happen I would just ignore it, push it down and pretend like nothing had happened.
However, these suppressed emotions weren’t going anywhere. Instead they sat within my body sending me little messages all the time (in the form of overwhelming anxiety and various other health issues) that I had much unresolved business to deal with. Initially as these physical messages continued to get stronger, I continued to use food, alcohol, overwork and overall busyness to try and ignore them. However, that can only work for so long before our body and our minds say NO more. When we don’t learn to express our emotions, they go unrecognised, unconsciously controlling us in various ways.
Our minds are more powerful than most of us realise and the affects that emotions such as fear, anxiety, anger, overwhelm, grief, guilt, unworthiness and despair can have on our physical body is immense. The thoughts, feelings, and emotions we experience and express openly contribute positively to our health. Whereas, storing up emotions, particularly those so often deemed negative, can deplete our energy and lead to a host of health problems, such as acute and chronic illness, anxiety, depression and exhaustion.
A healthy emotional world is a commitment to honouring ALL emotional experiences as they arise. I was able to regain my health and create a life free from anxiety where I am truly happy and passionate. I did this by going within and acknowledging and accepting the emotions that I had denied and suppressed my whole life and allowing myself the time, space and kindness to release them. I would love to help you to do the same.
I use a variety of emotional and energetic techniques such as Kinesiology, the Emotional Freedom Technique, NLP and Hypnotherapy to help YOU ease the burden of emotional turmoil and begin to live a life filled with more joy and happiness.
