The Five Habits of Women who Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

Health is hard work; if it weren’t, we’d all live forever. And, often, it’s put on the backburner – between kids and jobs and chores that never seem to end, it’s easy to act impulsively: we eat a chocolate bar for lunch because it’s fast (and, clearly, delicious).

However, health isn’t as elusive as you might think; if it was; we’d all call in sick for weeks at a time. There are some simple ways to make wellness a natural part of your lifestyle. These include:

1) Exercise: Yes, everyone knows that exercise is good for them, but what they don’t always know is that even a minimal amount of exercise makes a different. Studies suggest that ten minutes a day of brisk bursts of exercise are as beneficial as hours in the gym. No matter how busy a person is, this is doable: if you work out for ten minutes a day, you have 1430 minutes leftover!

2) Eat Healthy: Bad food is great for our taste buds: it’s inhumane not to LOVE chocolate! But eating healthy doesn’t need to be about waving a tearful goodbye to creamy pastas and lovely cakes; rather, it’s about balance. Strive to eat healthy the vast majority of time. And don’t stress if it does happen, just let it go and move on to a healthier option next time.

3) Think Positive: There’s an old saying that goes, “whether you think you can or you think you can’t, either way you’re right.” This probably isn’t accurate every time: if you think you can dunk a basketball, and you’re 5’2, you’re probably dreaming. But, in general, a positive mindset begets a positive outcome. Case in point: people who believe they’re lucky are, in fact, luckier.

4) Practice Mindfulness: It’s normal to balk at mindfulness as some sort of pseudoscience, but MRI scans and other brain imagining in people who practice mindfulness prove that it does indeed change brain chemistry. You don’t have to mediate during a business meeting – your boss might not like all the chanting – but practice serenity a few minutes a day. Breathing exercises on the way to work do wonders.

5) Get Organised: Wellness takes planning – in order to bring it into your routine, there needs to be room. And this means shuffling things around. It may seem as though you don’t have time for this, but organisation proves that you do. When you plan your day around wellness, you make it a priority, and that makes it loads easier to stick with during times of adversity or free cake in the staffroom.
